The solitude of this path never varies Grinding a brick on a rock is a waste.

I have to say, if being connected to Gawd means I glow red and shoot steam out both ends, I will SO pass on the experience. Both my husband and eldest son share the middle name "Pickles"...and you know, if anyone tries to stick a fork in their ass to connect them to electricity OR "Gawd" BAD, BAD things are going to happen to the would be missionary.
Current Mood: oh good grief?

mightydoll | Jul. 23rd, 2008 11:50 am scrap metal needed I'm in need of two large metal cans (like the ones you find roofing tar in) and some short lengths of rebar or thin pipe.
Nick's dad suggested a scrap metal yard, which does indeed seem to be a good idea, but I wouldn't even know where to start looking for one of those.
Any hints?
edit: whoops, this was meant to go to the toronto community, but I guess I can ask here too 3 comments - Leave a comment

misia | Jul. 23rd, 2008 07:29 am Big Big Love & Zaftig for a Good Cause Hey y'all --
For those who might've missed it yesterday, I am selling off the last of my stockpile of the out-of-print but much-in-demand Big Big Love and the not-out-of-print Zaftig: Well Rounded Erotica to raise money for a very good cause.
I was selling copies of my other books too, but they're all gone now. But you can still get copies of Big Big Love from me for half of what they're going for on Amazon Sellers's Used and New listings.
And guys? I'm down to my own shelf copies after this. I won't be selling any more. So if you want one, or know anyone who does, now's the time.
See the sale post for ordering info. 4 comments - Leave a comment

sonicwylde | Jul. 23rd, 2008 05:56 am The boring life of me Um nothing much going on.
Monday: 7 hours of no electricity. During hte day. In Texas. Final outside temp when power came back. 101 degrees and dont even know what teh humidity was. Inside it was 84 downstairs, 86 to 88 upstairs.
Those that know me, and my hate of heat. I was hot,and not just hot, hot to the point my skin felt burning. Still feel it. So yea, monday sucked.
What happened?
Well from what I gathered from a neighbor, the power in the hood was shut off at 8 am for maintence. Everyone else power came on at 10am. No one was told about this, so yes it was a surprise. This sudden outage burnt out our main breaker switch, this is found out after waiting hours for a guy to show up to check our power, he said that we had to call an electrician. So we did, and 2 hours later we have power and a new main breaker. Happy I was, and so tired by that point i had been up 24 hours straight and was getting loopy.
So I slept. and have been on an off since then. Although during the outage, I got my hair cut, took G's shirts to the cleaners, got some cat food, checked on a gym for pricing, and got food.
Tuesday: um nothing really, went to The Dark Knight (AWESOME), got some more things we needed, food, pick up cleaning and slept
Today: um same hting really, thinking of going to a movie, have to pick up the rest of the cleaning and possibly more napping.
What is with all the sleeping? I have issues with sleeping. Insomnia keeps me awake til I almost collapse. SO I am really trying to at least nap when I am tired, so even if I sleep a couple of hours at a time I rather that then feeling like I am losing my mind.
Now for DRRRAAMA:
not really, but I mentioned to G that I am not happy really. And no its not him or the relationship, we are wonderful there, no plans on leaving or anything.
THis is more, him and I need to have a life, go out more, do things and not just be like lumps.
He agrees, but its hard because he is exhausted a lot as he works a ton.
SO yea we are completely boring and we are trying to work on making ourselves less. Leave a comment

l_clausewitz | Jul. 23rd, 2008 03:41 pm Several years ago I wouldn't have found anything weird in popular representations of men-at-arms carrying fairly substantial shields even though they're already wearing full harnesses of plate, like many of the figurines shown in this page. Now I find it a bit superfluous and even...I don't know. Unattractive?
That got me thinking about a related subject. It's a fairly well-established (if inaccurate) paradigm among fantasy and "historical" role-playing games that a shield still gives a statistical bonus to defense even when the bearer already has full armor protection that renders it (the shield) unnecessary. I wonder where the idea came from? I'm tempted to think that it originated from the simple mechanics of early combat games, where the attempts to make universal rules with a minimum of exceptions ended up creating this oversight, which has been maintained largely through inertia rather than any genuine conviction that a shield was of much use to a fully-armored man. But, of course, I probably hadn't been born yet when this paradigm first came to be codified in game rules, so I don't have the experience to say whether my hypothesis even comes close to being a viable explanation for the phenomenon. 3 comments - Leave a comment

sandratayler | Jul. 22nd, 2008 06:23 pm Out and about One of the things I wanted to accomplish this week was clothes shopping. A space opened up this afternoon, so I left Kiki in charge of the other kids and took off to Savers. I spent a peaceful hour browsing through the racks and trying things on. In the end I found 4 pairs of pants, a shirt, and a sweater for about $30. I love Savers.
When I came home, I realized that what I really wanted to do was get outside and do something active. It has been far too long since I've done something enjoyable that requires muscle power. (Hauling boxes of books is exercise, but it ain't fun.) Since I'd already ditched the kids once, this time I decided to take them along. I decided on a bike ride. A couple of months ago we bough Kiki a new bike. This meant that for the first time in more than a decade, we own a bike that is the right size for me. I asked her if I could borrow it. Gleek and Patch got out their bikes and we got ready to hit the road.
Kiki followed us out saying "I've got to see this." It turns out that she thought the idea of mom on a bike was highly amusing. It was new territory for the other kids as well. They kept making encouraging statements to me about how bikes were fun and I should not worry. Amid a cloud of well intentioned advice, we set off. It was not a fast or exciting ride because I had to keep to a pace that Patch could maintain. His legs and wheels are smaller than mine. The return trip took three times as long as the trip out because we turned around when Patch started complaining of tired legs instead of anticipating tiredness and turning around sooner. We were all hot and sweaty by the time we arrived home, but a good time was had by all. I shall have to do it again, although I think I'll try to pick a time of day when it is not 90 degrees outside. 3 comments - Leave a comment
