Advice Wanted
I've decided that I'm going to do my own online comic. I intend for it (possibly them) to be a serious thing rather than a hobby. I won't be putting anything up for a while, but when i do I'll be sure to post about it here.

Right now I'm trying to figure out a few things. The one I'm hoping to get some help/advice on involves the mechanics of getting the strips ready for online posting. I figure I've got two basic options with a few variations on the themes.

Option #1 is to draw the strips on paper, scan them into the computer, then add text and do any finishing touches that are required.

Option #2 it to create the strips entirely on the computer.

Either way I have need of suitable hardware (and possibly software). If I'm going to be drawing by hand then scanning them I'll need a scanner. I believe gimp would be sufficient for doing the finishing touches and text.

If I'm going to be doing it all on the computer I'll need a drawing tablet and a good drawing program rather than just an Image Manipulator.

I don't have a lot of money, so if anyone here could recommend inexpensive options for either choice (and it's quite possible I'll wind up doing something somewhere in between) it would be much appreciated. As would any comments on other webcomic creation concerns that I may or may not be aware of.

Mostly though, I want to find some good drawing software.

I would vote in favour of option 1 - that's what I do when I make with the sequential art. I think it leaves all of your creative options open, while still giving you a low front-end investment. Also, in the event that your work ended up getting popular, you would have a 'selling the original art' secondary market that you wouldn't have otherwise.

For the hosting/promotional side of things, I would recommend both http://www.webcomicsnation.com and www.comicspace.com, as well.

Good luck!
